The Man In Black / Walter O'Dim Fun Facts

Fun, obscure fact: Walter O'Dim (the Man in Black) is actually the same supernatural antagonist Stephen King reuses across many books — first appearing as Randall Flagg in The Stand (1978) and later showing up under other names (Marten Broadcloak, The Walkin’ Dude, etc.). The Dark Tower books explicitly tie those identities together, making him one of King's earliest and longest-running "connected-universe" villains who slips into different genres and roles while remaining the same amoral, world-hopping trickster.

Obscurity Level: Obscure
Fun fact: The Man in Black rarely wins by brute force — he prefers trickery, illusion and psychological manipulation, arranging events and people from behind the scenes rather than confronting foes directly.

Obscurity Level: Basic
