Ent Fun Facts

J.R.R. Tolkien didn’t invent the word “Ent” — he borrowed it from Old English (it appears in Beowulf meaning “giant”). He originally thought of them as giant tree-guardians in early drafts, then reshaped them into the slow-speaking “shepherds of the trees” with an incredibly long, descriptive Entish language that can take hours to pronounce a single sentence.
