The O.C. popularized the phrase Welcome to The O.C., bitch! which became a catchphrase associated with the show and its star, Mischa Barton, as her character Marissa Cooper said it to a rival in the first episode.
The character Ryan Atwood, played by Benjamin McKenzie, was originally intended to be a more minor character, but the writers were so impressed with McKenzie's performance that they expanded his role significantly.
