The Gauntlet, an arcade game developed by Atari Games, was first released. It was a top-down dungeon crawl game popular for multiplayer gameplay.
Versions of The Gauntlet were released for various home consoles including the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Commodore 64, and others, expanding its popularity beyond arcades.
A sequel to the original Gauntlet, The Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, was released featuring enhanced graphics, new characters, and expanded gameplay.
Absolutely loving playing through this right now. If you like the old-school combat/puzzle mix that quite a few old jpgs have - this game is gonna blow you away. Dungeons, puzzles, bosses, nice progression - it's a love letter in the best sense of the phrase. Worth every penny and then some.
This game is such a beautiful love letter to old school JRPGs. Real Golden Sun vibes at times. If you enjoy any of what I just mentioned, it's worth giving this one a shot.
It's fun thinking about this game. I think it's a great game for people to play even if they don't have the nostalgia. Holds up well. Steam Deck verified (naturally). There are more and more indie FPS games inspired by Half-Life 2 and some of its styles and gameplay loops - and all of them are so fun. O.G. Halo + This, and you have the backbone and inspiration of a lot of great games.
