Rabbi means my teacher in Hebrew and is used as a title for Jewish clergy who are trained in Jewish law and tradition.
The title Rabbi dates back to the time of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, around 100 BCE, and was originally used to denote a scholarly role rather than a clergy position.
